Choose A Wand Vibe & Attachments

How To: Choose A Wand Vibe & AttachmentsChances are, if you're reading this you've heard of the Hitachi, now known as the Magic Wand Original, or wand vibrators in general. They've been a staple vibe since the 60s when the Hitachi was first sold on the market as a back massager. I couldn't tell you exact timing, but I can say for certain that it didn't take people long to realize it had other uses. Now, decades later, it's one of the most recognized sex toys on the market.

Wand vibes can be amazing for some people–those who crave aggressively strong, broad vibrations–but they're not everyone's cup of tea. Some people prefer a more pinpoint vibration, others might be looking for something that has other functionalities. But I'll let you in on a secret: some companies have been producing attachments for wand vibes that serve a variety of purposes, and can help transfer those powerhouse vibrations into a variety of shapes.

These attachments can not only give you functions like penis stimulation or new textures, though. The shape and thickness of the material can transfer vibrations in different and interesting ways; you might find that you prefer your Doxy Massager with a silicone attachment that concentrates those intense vibrations into a smaller surface. Having a plain or lightly textured silicone cap on your wand vibrator can help protect it and make it easier to clean, but it can also smooth out vibrations so they're less buzzy or aggressive. The broad, round heads of wand vibrators provide a very specific kind of sensation that can be very different from a surface with bumps, ridges, or extensions: some will prefer more pinpoint stimulation, others will like the fluttering sensation provided by some thin, fin-like protrusions featured on some attachments.

All of the options made available through wand attachments makes them an ideal way to explore the kinds of shapes and vibrations you prefer. Your average attachment costs much less than an entirely new product–especially of the same vibration strength–and makes experimenting and having more options in your toy box much more accessible.

Attachments with penetrative features are also great for a few reasons. They're all anal safe–meaning that they're firmly anchored outside the body–so you can feel free to sanitize your favorite silicone attachment with a brief (usually 10 minute) boil, grab some lube, and have fun with no concern. There are very few anal-safe vibrators, and almost none of those are as strong as a wand vibrator is; there are very few places you'll find vibrations of this strength in tandem with an anal toy–and because the motor is outside of the body, they don't have to be huge to accommodate those vibrations.

There are so many options for experimentation: for one example, the attachments featuring a penetrative portion sitting at a 90-degree angle to the vibrator itself have unique capabilities for partnered sex. One person can hold the opposite end of the attachment to themselves externally while their partner is able to penetrate themselves with it. With a little imagination, there are a huge variety of possibilities available!

A note on materials: Silicone is a non-porous and stable material that ranges from soft to very firm in feel. Silicone can be boiled to sanitize or cleaned regularly with an unscented dish soap and warm water and is compatible with water-based, oil-based, and silicone/water hybrid lubricants. TPR is Thermoplastic Rubber, a less porous material that's usually firm and will last longer than most other porous materials and hold on to less dirt and bacteria–but it will degrade and eventually need replacing. TPR can't be completely sanitized and should not be shared between orifices or partners, but with care should last a good long while.

Attachments for standard sized Magic Wands

Click here to shop attachments that will fit on the Magic Wand Original (aka Hitachi), the Magic Wand Rechargeable and the Magic Wand Plus. The Magic Wand Original has a rubber head that can degrade over time, so some people like to get a cover to keep it fresh. Other attachments are about creating a range of sensations and functionalities, transferring those famously strong vibes into all manner of fun.

There are other wand vibes that have close enough dimensions to fit Magic Wand attachments. The Doxy and Doxy Die Cast have a slightly wider head (2.38" inches) than the Magic Wand Original and Rechargeable (2.25" inches), but silicone is usually stretchy enough to accommodate that small difference. Other wands that are compatible with these attachments are the Le Wand (2.25" inch width) and Lelo Smart Wand (2.36" inch width).

It is worth mentioning that the Le Wand Petite line of attachments will fit the Magic Wand Mini.
